App researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, known for discovering new Instagram features ahead of official announcements, recently shared a screenshot of a page in the Instagram app that displays a notice reading, "the creator or Meta said that this content was created or edited with AI." The specific notice attributes the generation of an image to "Meta AI" and provides a brief description of generative AI, along with tips on how to identify posts that utilize AI.

The significance of this notice lies in its potential to curb the spread of AI-generated misinformation. While still in its early stages, AI-generated misinformation can have serious consequences if left unchecked. A recent viral image of the pope wearing a swagged-out puffy jacket showcased how such content, even if seemingly harmless, could be used to spread false information. It remains unclear how automated Instagram's labeling system will be and to what extent it will rely on user disclosures.
